Wading through a ton of broadband comparison sites? Not sure what exactly you are looking for? Here are some tips about what to look for when you are doing broadband comparisons.
There are such a plethora of sites out there claiming to be the right one to look at for comparing your broadband. However while these sites are informative and certainly save you the hassle of going to forty different sites yourself, before you do anything else you should work out what you are looking for. Otherwise you may find yourself getting sucked into apparently cheap deals that are filled with hidden charges.
How to find the right one
Firstly, what kind of internet user are you (or would you like to be)? If you only ever use the internet for say a little browsing and emailing then you probably will not need a fast connection speed or big download limit. You can probably look for a 1GB download limit and 2Mbps speed. You can find quite cheap deals that offer small downloads- enough for browsing and emailing- with decent speeds of up to 8Mbps or if you are worried about going over your limit you can get slower speeds with unlimited downloads. Dont be suckered in my unlimited downloads if you are a fairly light internet user though, you are better off paying for speed because you will probably rarely go over 1-2GB unless you start to download music or gaming online.
If you plan to use the internet for everything- bills, banking, gaming, getting music and movies- then you will want to look for good deals on downloads. Definitely try to go for an unlimited package because you will find that gaming and movies will eat up your limit otherwise. If you are gaming you will want to go for high speeds.
If this is your first broadband connection then you should definitely look for a deal that includes a free installation and modem. These can add hundreds to your starting costs so be aware that many 12 and 24 month contract packages can offer them for free.
