Looking for a Broadband provider UK? Heres how to choose the best one for you

How do you look for the right UK broadband provider? The broadband market is cluttered with loads of different ones each offering so many different packages that its difficult to decide which provider to go for let alone which package. Here is a series of steps that will help you decide.

1. Choose your budget
There are such varying packages that its good to go in with an idea of how much you are willing to spend. There are so many different deals out there that you will find that you can very easily afford a decent connection and upload, you do not need to spend lots, just spend a few minutes doing the right research.
2. Choose your speed
Broadband speeds can vary hugely from 512Kbps (the slowest form of broadband common a few years ago) up to a whopping 24Mbps. Most packages offer between 4Mbps and 8Mbps and these are more than enough for most homes, unless your house is filled with a lot of gamers in which case you may want to up the speeds to cover for the amount of people who are using the bandwidth at the same time.
3. Choose your download limit
You should have an idea of what download limit will suit you. If you are a light internet user and you only use your broadband to browse a little and check emails then 1-2GB will be enough to cover your downloads. If you want to download music and movies or play games then you should look for bigger limits like 10-20GB. Beware of download caps though, because when you go over them either your internet is capped, as in reduced to a significantly slower speed which can be very annoying when it happens early in the month, or you can be charged for going over. This can end very badly if you do not realise you have gone over. If you think this may happen it is better to be generous with your cap and go for something you will never ever fully use or even just go for an unlimited package. Quite often you can find very affordable packages that have no download limit at all.
4. Choose whether you want WiFi
These days most internet providers will give you a modem or router when you sign up for the first time. You can also choose to get a wireless router which will allow any computers with a wireless adapter (most have them built in) to connect to the internet wirelessly. This removes the mess of cables that can be required if several computers need access to your broadband and is very simple to set up without too much computer expertise.

Once you have chosen these things you will be able to look at comparison sites and weed out the packages that are not right for you.
