Choosing between digital cable and satellite TV? It can be a tough choice now, especially as competition stiffens and they both offer comparable entertainment options.
They both have an excellent picture and great sound and on the surface, can seem very similar. Both of them offer hundreds of channels to choose from and if you are a sports fanatic, a wide variety of sports programming. The size of the satellite disc is alot smaller now. In the past a satellite dish was sometimes eight feet across. Now they are roughly as big around as a car tire and can be picked up with one hand, they are so light.
They now are mounted out of the way, on the roof of your house, or on a balcony. You have to be able to point it to the south if you live in the U.S. and not have its line of reception obscured. This is because the broadcasting satellites revolve around the equator. Both of them offer services, that let you watch paid for events like movies and special sporting events, but cable beats out the competition in this area.
This is because the cable is a two way connection and this allows you to communicate directly with the cable company. So you can get movies on demand when you want to see them. Satellite has a similar service, but you cant get them on demand, you have to wait until their schedule broadcast. If your house isn't yet wired for cable, or satellite then it will have to be.
Getting your house wired for digital cable, can mean digging a trench through your yard to get the service to you, if it isn't already there. With satellite though, the cable comes from the dish and into your house only, there is no reason to run a cable through your yard with satellite. Satellite requires that each set have an independent wire ran to the satellite, unless everyone wants to watch the same thing on all TVs.
Each TV will also have to have a top digital tuner . So for services, digital cable does beat out satellite TV in that area, but satellite service providers are catching up quick. Satellite does offer you more channels though, particularly if you go with a bigger satellite dish. If you are a sports nut, you can then get just about any kind of sports event, from any country at any time of day, or night.
